Our
10th Annual Golf Event !!
Monday,
September 14, 2009 @
Orchard Park C.C.
4777
S. Buffalo Rd. Orchard
Park, New York
14127
Formed in 1946, the
club was built
around a traditional
18 hole golf layout,
designed by the
legendary golf
architect, Walter
Travis.
Over the years, the
course has undergone
several renovations
and improvements.
Despite these
changes, it
continues to retain
the classic charm
and challenge
intended by its
original designer.
In 2003-2004, major
renovations of the
kitchen and dining
facilities were
completed. This has
led to a greatly
enhanced dining
experience by all
members.

Donations over $600,000.00
!!
Dennis J. Szefel, Jr.
2008 Golf Tournament Nets
over $60,000 for
Leukemia Research at
Roswell Park
BUFFALO, NY- For the
ninth
consecutive year,
leukemia research at Roswell
Park Cancer Institute (RPCI)
was the beneficiary of the
annual Dennis J. Szefel, Jr.
Memorial Golf Tournament.
Proceeds from the
2008 tournament, totaling
over $60,000, were recently
presented by the Szefel
family and friends to
Roswell Park
representatives. The hard
work and dedicated efforts
of the friends and family of
Dennis have brought the
total proceeds to well over a
half million dollars!!
The tournament is held in
memory of Dennis J. Szefel,
Jr., who was a 26 year-old
newlywed when he was
diagnosed with acute
myelogenous leukemia (AML)
in October 1997. Dennis died
two years later after a
courageous fight. The
tourney was launched the
following year by his
parents, Theresa and Dennis,
his widow, Gretchen, and his
sisters, Amy Starck and
Julie Reid, to celebrate
Dennis’s life and his love
of golf.
Since the inception of
the event in 2000,
over $600,000 has been raised for
the Dennis J. Szefel, Jr.
Endowed Fund for Leukemia
Research at Roswell Park.
Dollars from the endowed
fund helped to recruit
Eunice Wang, MD, an
award-winning young
investigator, to Roswell
Park’s leukemia research
team in 2003. Dr. Wang came
to RPCI from Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center in New York City. Her
innovative research
interests focus on
discovering new biological
therapies to stop leukemia
from spreading within the
body.
Roswell Park Cancer
Institute, founded in 1898,
is the nation’s first cancer
research, treatment and
education center. It is the
only National Cancer
Institute-designed
comprehensive cancer center
in Upstate New York .
